A fantastic 8 days mountain bike tour in the Khevi region of Georgia. Tbilisi is the crossroad between Europe and Asia, its geographical location makes it a mix of cultures, and various ethnic influences, with the presence of Orthodox and Catholic churches, mosques, synagogues and even a Zoroastric temple that coexist peacefully. We will cycle in the Caucasus Mountains, visiting small remote villages, on medium-difficult trails, discovering uncontaminated lakes, springs and waterfalls and tasting delicious traditional Georgian dishes. A true off the beaten track experience that will allow you to discover an exceptional territory and a welcoming population.

NB For this tour a good cycling experience is required, the assistance vehicle is always available to transport the participants in case it is  needed. This itinerary can be modified at the discretion of the guide depending on the weather conditions and the route. Maximum expected altitude: 2,600 meters A.M.S.L.


Day 1 | Arrival in Tbilisi  

Arrival in Tbilisi, airport transfer and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 | Tbilisi, city tour 

18 km, 1.100 m  

Fiste day dedicated to visiting Tbilisi. After breakfast, warm-up and bike tour starting from Vake Park and ending in the thermal baths. We will visit with our guide the ethnographic museum of Georgia, then continue on to the Turtle Lake. From here we will enter the forest and climb up to Quarter Bath to stop and swim in the sulphurous baths. Here, a minibus awaits us, with our bags on board for changing clothes and to store our bicycles. After the baths we head walking toward the park Rikhe then, with the cable car Narikhala (from Narin Qala, or "Small Fortress"), we reach the historic center: Legvtakhevi, square Meidan, via Shardeni. The bike route is a combination of dirt road and asphalt. Free dinner and night at the hotel in the center of Tbilisi.

Day 3 | Tbilisi, Truso Gorge, Arsha 

35 km, 500 m 

Early in the morning we will depart from Tbilisi, by van for a vehicle three-hour transfer through the old Georgian military mountain road of Jvari to cross the beautiful Truso Valley, with the old towers guarding our passage. 

The route will be 12 km on asphalt, 23 km on dirt track. In Truso we will get on our bikes to start pedalling to tackle the first difference in altitude to reach the mountain pass (2300 meters), where we will find lakes and springs. Our route winds along the river on dirt roads, while the final part of the track is paved, taking us through the valley of the Tergi River, with the old villages and towers around it. Dinner and overnight at a guest house in the village Arsha.

Day 4 | Arsha - Sno River Valley - Juta - Chaukhi - Juta 

The first part of the route is easy, through the Sno valley, followed by 300 meters in altitude to reach the village of Juta (2200 meters). The last part is the most difficult, requires good driving skills in off road, you can choose to ride a bike or continue on foot, the trails are muddy and rocky. The views are spectacular: the Chaukhi mountain, with rocky peaks and subalpine flowers, with the flowering of rhododendron bushes and then a transparent alpine lake at about 2600 meters above sea level. Dinner and overnight at a guest house in the village of Juta.

Day 5 | Braga Juta - Gergeti - Stephantsminda 

35 km (5 km of asphalt, 30 km of off-road ) , 850 m  

Today the route begins with more than 20 km of descent to Stephantsminda (1,900 m), from where we will begin a challenging climb to reach the church of Gergeti (2,170 m). We will have time to visit the church and admire Mount Kazbeg (5,033 m) and the town of Stephantsminda. We will descend again to reach the village below. Dinner and overnight in Stephantsminda

Thu rn 6 | Stephantsminda - Devdoraki Glacier - Stephantsminda 

30 km (14 km of asphalt, 16 km gravel) , 1.1 00 m 

Ring route, to return to Stepane & Cicia's Guest House, where we will leave our luggage.

After the easy descent towards the Dariali gorge on asphalt, an off-road route will follow to the Dariali glacier. We will cross beautiful fields and ponds and along the way back we will see the great waterfall of Gveleti, a short distance from the main road. Dinner and overnight stay at  the guestouse.

Day 7 | Stephantsminda - Khada gorge - Mtskheta - Tbilisi 

20 km, 7 00 m 

Morning cycling by visiting the Khada gorge, about 20 km. After lunch, we will leave by minibus in the direction of Tbilisi, a stop to visit the ancient city of Mtskheta, which contains two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Georgia: the Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. Visit of Mtskheta and transfer to Tbilisi.

Day 8 | Departure 

Breakfast and transfer to the airport for the return flight. Goodbye Georgia!
